Canadian experience class
The CEC was created in 2008, allowing graduates from post-secondary institutions and temporary foreign workers (TFWs) with Canadian experience to transition to permanent resident status. The CEC is another prescribed class of persons who are selected on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada. Basically, it is through their Canadian work experience that they may qualify for permanent residence. (Applicants who intend to reside in Quebec would apply directly to that province’s Quebec Experience Program.) International students who are graduates of a Canadian post-secondary institution and who possess professional, managerial, or skilled Canadian work experience may apply for permanent residence under the CEC. Certain TFWs may also apply for permanent residence through this program. To qualify for permanent residence, TFWs must meet the criteria set out in section 87.1(2) of the IRPR:
Work experience:
- At least 12 months of full-time work (or an equal amount in part-time work);
- In on e or more occupations that are listed in skill type 0 or skill level A or B of the NOC matrix;
- Within the past 36 months;
- That included the performance of the actions described in the lead statement for the occupation as set out in the occupational descriptions of the NOC matrix; and
- That included the performance of a substantial number of the main duties of the occupation as set out in the occupational descriptions of the NOC matrix, including all the essential duties.
Language requirement:
- Meet the minimum requirement according to the applicant’s skill level: CLB 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs, or CLB 5 for NOC B jobs.
